Company Profile-Kos Kos Food and Agricultural Products Pvt Limited.

Kos Kos Food and Agricultural Products Pvt Limited (www.koskos.lk), or Kos Kos as it is known, is guided by the vision of its founder and CEO Mr. G. Wijenayake, a renowned meditation teacher; the director of the Nisala Foundation, a charitable institution in Kandy; an attorney-at-law (non-practising); and an agriculturalist.

Clean, Safe, and State of the Art Facility

Kos Kos keeps its facilities and the environment clean, and well maintained. The factory has food-grade equipment, and machinery of the highest standard that can meet international accreditation requirements.

Highly Experienced Staff

The staff at Kos Kos are comprehensively trained through programs run by industry professionals. A number of the staff have extensive experience in the dehydration sector through prior experience in factories elsewhere; the new staff are thoroughly trained by experienced consultants.

Guided by Industry Professionals

Kos Kos also takes great pride in obtaining the guidance and consultation of some of the most prominent industry professionals. This is due to the fact that our primary concern is the quality of the product and the service that we offer our customers, with quality and reliability being two of the cornerstones of our guiding philosophy. Therefore we strive to obtain the best possible guidance that the industry can offer. In this we have been fortunate to be guided by two of the luminaries in the field of dehydration in Sri Lanka from the very outset.

One such consultant is Professor Sanath Amarathunga from the department of agricultural engineering from the University of Peradeniya. Professor Amarathunga’s speciality is in dehydration machinery, having a background in research in Japan, Sri lanka, and elsewhere. He was instrumental in designing and bringing to operation the state of the art machinery we have at Kos Kos, which includes, apart from the electrical heat pump dryer, a safe and secure hot air dryer that works on firewood, a source of renewable energy that can sustain operations in times of scarcity of fuel and electricity. This latter aspect would come into relevance in the current scenario in the country where there is a lack of aforementioned sources of energy, thus enabling us to not only offer our products seamlessly, but also at competitive prices.

The other luminary that contributes to our efforts at Kos Kos is Dr. K. H. Sarananda, the head of department of biosystems engineering in the University of Wayamba and the former director of the Food Research Unit in Gannoruwa, Kandy. Dr. Sarananda guides us in all matters of food safety and dehydration practices to enable us to meet the highest standards of production that the industry can offer.

And apart from the above-mentioned professionals, we enlist the service of consultants with many years of industry experience to look after the nitty-gritty end of the business.

Sourcing from Local Farmers

Due to its location in a remote part of the central highlands of Sri Lanka, Kos Kos has the advantage of being surrounded by inspiring natural landscapes, and an endless array of farmlands. This latter aspect allows us to buy some of the raw material directly from local farmers, paying fair prices for their produce. This helps the farmers to reduce wastage in transportation to distant markets, while creating jobs within the communities, and gaining sustainable incomes.

Reducing Food Wastage

We are currently developing networks with the neighboring farming communities to source products directly from not only the medium to large sized farms, but also from small scale vendors. This would then include buying from individuals who otherwise would let the produce go to waste, such as households with one or two Jackfruit, Banana, Papaya, or Pomelo trees, for instance. This would create  a network that would reduce food wastage at a time of impending food scarcity in the country, while bringing an extra income to the vendor.

Moreover, the fact that we dehydrate a large range of fruits and vegetables found within the communities which includes up to 30 fruit or vegetable items currently, adds to the practice of safe-keeping food items.

Well Looked-After Staff

The staff at Kos Kos are highly trained in dehydration practices through their previous experience in the sector, and by industry professionals that we enlist and hire at regular intervals to conduct training programs.

And apart from giving our staff a sound understanding and a practical know-how in the industry, Kos Kos is big on looking after their well-being. The staff are provided a safe and clean environment to work in, while providing hostel facilities for resident workers, and modern dining facilities.

Moreover, not stopping at looking after the physical well-being, the staff are also given the opportunity to train in deep relaxation techniques and yoga, while on pay. This allows the staff members to stay stress free and healthy, which no doubt contributes to the happy working environment that Kos Kos is becoming known for.

Core Belief: Quality is Promotion

We believe that quality is its own advertising and promotion, and hence strive to improve tirelessly to meet the highest standards in manufacturing and service in the sector.

We Deliver on Time
